The Alpha Legion

The Alpha Legion was once the XXth Legion of Astartes created during the First Founding by the Emperor of Mankind to carry out His Great Crusade to reunite all of humanity in a new Golden Age under His rule. They are experts in infiltration and their armies contain many Chaos Cultists in addition to regular Chaos Space Marines. The Alpha Legion's Primarch was named Alpharius, and was actually one of the identical twin Primarchs Alpharius Omegon, two brilliant and secretive sons of the Emperor, one of whom was reportedly later killed after the end of the Horus Heresy by Roboute Guilliman, the Primarch of the Ultramarines. Despite its seeming allegiance to Chaos, a closer scrutiny of the Alpha Legion's known history indicates that their seeming service to Chaos Undivided might actually be the greatest deception they have played upon the Imperium.

What makes an Alpha Legion Detachment?

To be an Alpha Legion detachment, much like what we saw in the Wrath of Magnus there are a number of restrictions:

• The army can have none of the Chaos Space Marine unique characters.
• Any existing unit with a Mark of Chaos (eg. Khorne Berzerkers) cannot be taken.
• No model can purchase a Mark of Chaos.
• All models that can purchase Veterans of the Long war (VotLW) must do so, but for free.

So what do I get for being an Alpha Legion Detachment?

If your detachment is an Alpha Legion detachment then you get the following special rules:

• Forward Operatives: Units of Chosen have the Troops battle role. In addition; Chosen, Chaos Space Marines and Cultists gain Infiltrate.
• Many Heads of Hydra: If your warlord is slain, pick a new friendly character from the Alpha Legion detachment, he generates a warlord trait immediately. This can be repeated as long as their are Characters to choose. The opponent does not achieve Slay the Warlord until they have killed the last remaining Warlord

Alpha Legion Warlord Traits

1. Warlord and his unit gain Infiltrate
2. Once per game the warlord can swap their positions with another Alpha Legion character with the same unit type (eg. Infantry).
3. At the start of each turn from the 2nd you can auto pass a Reserve roll.
4. Warlord has the Stealth special rule
5. Cultists within 12" of the Warlord gain Furious Charge and Feel no Pain 6+

Alpha Legion Relics

• The Mindveil (30 Points): Start of your movement phase you may move 3D6 immediately, this can take you out of combat (Enemy does NOT get a consolidate)
• Blade of Hydra (30 Points): S User, AP5, Melee, Daemon Weapon, Rending, Multi Headed (Every roll ofa 6 to hit generates another attack, which in turn can generate more attacks)
• Bring back the days of the Blender Dreads... but obviously not on an actual dreadnought here
• Viper's Bite (15 Points): 24" S5 AP2 Rapid Fire
• The Drakescale Plate (25 Points): Armour with a 2+ save and 2++ Invulnerable against Flamer weapons
• Chaos Space Marines really lack 2+ armour on mobile characters. Other armies have access to things like Runic Armour or Artificer Armour, its good to see Chaos getting some love here.
• Hydra's Teeth (15 Points): 24" Bolter with the Blast type, Ignores Cover and Poison 2+
• Icon of Insurrection (25 Points): Friendly Cultists within 12" gain the Zealot special rule

Alpha Legion Formation Based Detachment (FBD)

• Hidden Deployment: All non vehicle units gain Shrouded in the 1st turn.
• Cult Uprising: Cultist units destroyed return via ongoing reserves on a 4+

Core Choices:

• Chaos Warband: As per Traitor's Hate

Command Choices:

• Lord of Legion: 1 of the following; Chaos Lord, Sorcerer, Dark Apostle or Daemon Prince

Auxiliary Choices: Rumors show that they get 8 Formations in the Auxiliary Choice, but from what I can find there is 9, one of these (most likely the Terminator Annihilation Force) is not available.

• Lost and Damned: As per Traitor's Hate
• Helforged Wrack: As per Traitor's Hate
• Daemon Engine: As per Traitor's Hate
• Heldrake Terror: As per Traitor's Hate
• Cult of Destruction: As per Traitor's Hate
• Fist of the Gods: As per Traitor's Hate
• Raptor Talon: As per Traitor's Hate
• Terminator Annihilation Force: As per Traitor's Hate
• Spawn: As per Traitor's Hate
