Reviews: Traitor Legions - World Eaters

So it was only yesterday we took a look at what we expected would be in the new Traitors Legions Codex Supplement, stating time would tell what was in it, well time has told us :)

Over the coming days we will be taking a look at each legion in their own review, and as the title suggests, World Eaters is first on our list.

Content sourced via the Combat Phase podcast

The World Eaters

The World Eaters are one of the 9 Traitor Legions of Chaos Space Marines who now inhabit the Warp rift known as the Eye of Terror. The World Eaters, originally known as the War Hounds, and they were one of the first to betray the Emperor of Mankind for the service of Chaos and the Warmaster Horus

What makes a World Eater Detachment?

To be a World Eater detachment, much like what we saw in the Wrath of Magnus there are a number of restrictions:
  • The army can have none of the Chaos Space Marine unique characters, with the obvious exception of Kharn the Betrayer.
  • No model can have a Psychic Mastery Level. So no Chaos Sorcerers.
  • All models that can purchase the Mark of Khorne or Daemon of Khorne must do so.
  • All models that can purchase Veterans of the Long War (VotLW) must do so, but for free.

So what do I get for being a World Eater Detachment?

If your detachment is a World Eater detachment then you get the following special rules:
  • Berzerker Horde: Khorne Berzerkers have the Troops battle role.
    • This means you don't need a Chaos Lord to unlock your Zerkers to Troops, you get this straight off the bat
  • Blessing of Khorne: Models with VotLW gain the Adamantium Will special rule.
  • Butcher's Nails: Models with VotLW gain Fearless and Furious Charge.
    • This is obviously pretty awesome, you can take regular units of Chaos Space Marines, with Mark of Khorne and VotLW for free, and they end up with a tonne of USR's, Adamantium Will, Fearless, Furious Charge, Rage, Counterattack and Hatred Marines.

World Eater Warlord Traits

Some nice flavour here, but nothing game breaking.
  1. Warlord gains the Rampage special rule
  2. Everytime the Warlord rolls on the Boon table, instead he can boost his attack's characteristic by 1.
  3. At the end of your enemies Charge subphase, your warlord and his unit can declare a charge
  4. Your warlord gets to re-roll to hit and wound in a challenge
  5. If your warlord is locked in combat he gains the Feel no Pain and Eternal Warrior special rule.
  6. The warlord and friendly Mark of Khorne models within 8" roll 3D6 and pick the 2 Highest for charge distance

World Eater Relics

A number of relics (not sure on the points at this stage)
  • Talisman of Burning Blood (25 Points): The bearer's unit can move an additional 3" and still charge.
    • this is pretty awesome on a character with that can already move 12"
  • Gorefather (30 Points): S+2, AP2, Armourbane, Murderous Strike (to wound of a 6 gains Instant Death), 2 Handed and Unwieldy
  • Crimson Killer (20 Points): Pistol, 12", S7, AP2, Soulblaze
  • Brass Collar of Bhorghaster (20 Points): Grants a 4+ Deny the Witch, if you deny a power, the Psyker suffers a Perils of the Warp
  • Bloodfeeder (30 Points): Axe with S+1, AP2, 2D6 Attacks, but each roll of a 1 is a wound to you with no armour saves.
    • Kind of like a double Daemon Weapon.
  • Berzerker's Glaive (30 Points): S+2, AP3, Daemon Weapon, Specialist Weapon, 2-Handed, melee, Epitome of Rage (bearer gains Feel No Pain and It Will Not Die but loses Independent Character special rule)

World Eaters Formation Based Detachment (FMD)

Gains the following special rules:
  • Blood Mad! After deployment/infiltrate, but before the 1st players turn, all non-vehicle units can immediately move 2D6" (roll separately for each unit).
    • This is CRAZY AWESOME!
  • Non-vehicle units and Walkers can re-roll failed charges.

Core Choices:

  • Chaos Warband: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Maelstrom of Gore: As per Traitor's Hate
Command Choices:

  • Lord of Legion: 1 of the following; Kharn the Betrayer, Chaos Lord, Dark Apostle or Daemon Prince
Auxiliary Choices: Rumors show that they get 8 Formations in the Auxiliary Choice, but from what I can find there is 9, one of these (most likely the Terminator Annihilation Force) is not available.
  • Lost and Damned: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Helforged Wrack: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Daemon Engine: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Heldrake Terror: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Cult of Destruction: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Fist of the Gods: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Raptor Talon: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Terminator Annihilation Force: As per Traitor's Hate
  • Spawn: As per Traitor's Hate
